We hope this weekend should appear to be going pretty well for everyone. We know the Americans have to stay at home because of the hurricane, and of course, everybody are still talking about the resignation of Steve Jobs, especially there are some photos floating around the Internet of Steve Jobs looking really ill. The Chinese Internet is abuzz over those pictures too, but we are not covering too much news on this one, just to pay a little respect on Steve Jobs’ privacy. Ok, anyone of you failed to catch up this week’s tech stories in China, we have got you covered. Here are the interesting China news you should not miss!

  • The 5 Chinese companies which might intrested to buy HP’s PC business (Penn Olson). Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers are eyeing to buy-out the world’s biggest PC maker. So who will be the acquirer ?
  • Acer has reported a worse-than-expected quarterly loss (Reuters). The Taiwanese maker has some big problem with their PC business and they said it would be impossible to break even for the full year.
  • Dell China’s revenue increased by 20 percent in Q2, 2011 (China Tech News). Dell’s server business and IT consulting service are making money in China right now.
  • Facebook is more popular than anything else in Hong Kong (CNNGO). In China, Hong Kong is definitely the only city to access Facebook freely, and it was enjoyed by a large number of HK people.
  • The new MacBook Air models will be launching in China soon (FORTUNE). Soon? We believe, the Chinese are already getting their new MacBook Air through gray market.
  • FBI help China to crack down Chinese-language pornographic website (Shanghai Daily). The Chinese website which contain child pornography, was based in the United States, that’s why the FBI was in-action.
  • Microsoft partners with China firm on cloud-computing (Reuters). Microsoft will develop and sell cloud-computing solutions in China with the help of local Linux software company.
  • China bans 100 music songs from Internet (The China Times). China authorities had placed an Internet blacklist on more than 100 songs including Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys, condemning their music for being harmful to the Chinese ‘national cultural security’… WTF !!
  • Groupon’s joint venture in China is closing offices and sacking staff (WSJ). Lot’s of foreign Internet companies have long struggled in China market, this time we have the most authoritative online coupon company in the list.
  • NOKIA teams up with China leading LBS service provider to offer NFC check-in (TechNode). Near Field Communication combines with a location-based service, we think that this is too advanced for the Chinese to be adopted for everyday use.
