The Top 3 Android Manufacturers In China

According to the second quarter of the year, HTC, Motorola, and Samsung claim the top three spots in China’s Android handset market, according to a report analyze by a Chinese app analytics company. The big three hold-up to 65% market share together. We have a Taiwan company, U.S. company and a Korea company dominant the Chinese market. While for the Chinese manufacturers, Huawei, Meizu, Lenovo and ZTE are the best four, but only hold-up to a 22% market share in total. Surprisingly, Meizu, the company who well-known for copying Apple iPhone, has gained a higher market share then the big Lenovo. As for those small Shanzhai manufacturers, their market share are not too obvious to be seen yet…

The report was based on Android handset and the data was collected by a Chinese startup company which develop statistical analysis tools for mobile application. Some of the data from the report clearly shown how is Android doing in China right now. Android 2.2 is the most popular version for the Chinese, owns 57 percent of the market share compare to other version. Android OS is mostly used in smartphone device, only 8.7% is used in tablet, which can consider a good result as Apple iPad has already dominant the Chinese market. And for the price distrubution for Android handset in China, the market share for high-end device has increased, device which cost more then 2,000 yuan (US$310) has risen to 63 percent.

As for those small Shanzhai manufacturers, the report did not reflect too much of their presence. The smartphone market usually has higher technology requirements, from internal chipset to touch screen, most of the Shanzhai manufacturers might not have the ability to produce those specifications. But those news on the death of Shanzhai are actually exaggerated. The Android market in China will become more fractured starting from here. It will take time for those Shanzhai to catch up. There may not be hundreds of manufacturers as there are in feature-phones, but we expect smaller Chinese manufacturers will find out their way to get into the game. In the next coming few months, we will properly see far cheaper Android devices, with copycat design. Shanzhai will gradually be reborn in the smartphone market, with the help of Google’s cute little green robot.
