Out of a surprise, the Motorola Droid 3 is now official in China, where it’s being called the Milestone 3 (the European and Asian name for the Droid series.) The Gingerbread (Android 2.3) phone first got previewed last week where it landed in the hands of Chinese website xda.cn. Then, the new XT883 model has just been made official by Motorola, today at China Telecom’s CDMA Summit and 2011 e-Surfing 3G Handset Trade Fair in Guangzhou. We were wondering, why Motorola chooses China as the first place to launch the Droid 3? Well, according to the director of the China Telecom Device Management Center, the launch of Droid 3 in China represents a genuine milestone for China Telecom’s partnership with Motorola.
“Motorola’s Milestone line has already been a great success in China, and XT883 is a much anticipated addition to the family. We are delighted to introduce XT883 here in Guangzhou at our most important trade show of the year. The launch represents a genuine milestone for China Telecom’s partnership with Motorola, and for our combined commitment to bringing great mobile experiences to Chinese consumers.”
The Droid 3 is faster and thinner than its previous generation. What’s so great about it? It has a new five-row slideout QWERTY keyboard, a 4-inch touchscreen with qHD (540 x 960) resolution, a dual-core Tegra 2 1GHz processor capable of shooting 1080p videos, an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, up to 32GB of built-in storage, and the best thing — a HDMI port. It supports CDMA, GSM and WCDMA networks. The cons? It has a 1500mAh battery, which may not be suitable for heavy use. It’s coming to China this summer, price is unknown, and there are no words on US/European launch. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy the photos and videos below.
The Droid 3 only runs on China Telecom’s e-Surfing 3G network, and does not provide Android Market. Motorola has its own app market, SHOP4APPS China, designed specifically for Chinese users. Anyway, we think there will be lots of US users getting this if Motorola made it with LTE. Possible?
