Do you ever wonder what Foxconn CEO Terry Gou thinks about Apple CEO Steve Jobs? Well, you gotta hear this!
“I have often asked myself if I would have worked as hard if I was as ill as Steve Jobs. My answer is that my wife most likely would not have let me work, and I would have stayed home. But I am not Steve Jobs.”
This is what Foxconn CEO thinks of himself ever since the health of Steve Jobs became a matter of worldwide concern. And what’s even more surprising is that Gou believes Steve Jobs is a great man, where he uses the Chinese term as a “伟人 (weiren)”, the Chinese term for a great man that is very rarely used to describe living people. Gou was impressed with Jobs’ passion at work,
“Even though he had been seriously ill, he continued to work hard on the development of new products and technologies. I am convinced that he is doing this because he is dedicated to his ideals and his vision, not out of any need to make more money.”
Gou further said that the relationship between Apple and Foxconn went far beyond that between a consumer brand and its contract manufacturer, and said that they were partners. He said that the manufacturing process for iPhones and iPads was extremely challenging, and required the development of whole new processes, so the company, Foxconn, is continuously learning ways to make the products more efficiently. And they have helped Apple a lot.
“We’ve helped Apple make a lot of money. If our customers make money, then we can also make money. I most fear customers that don’t make money.”
We love Gou’s points of views on Apple and Steve Jobs. And I hope you guys sill remember this quote from Steve Jobs,
“I mean, some people say, ‘Oh, God, if [Jobs] got run over by a bus, Apple would be in trouble.’ And, you know, I think it wouldn’t be a party, but there are really capable people at Apple. My job is to make the whole executive team good enough to be successors, so that’s what I try to do.”
