Last week, China’s defense ministry clarified the presence of “Blue Army” within the PLA. The team is formed by 30-strong commando with tens of millions of investment. The purpose is to train and improve the security of the country’s military forces as well as to protect from the cyber-world.
“Blue Army” reportedly existed for two years already, and currently under the Guangdong Military Command. The spokesperson of the China’s defense ministry emphasized the team is for defensive purpose, not hacking. Xu Guangyu, a senior researcher of the government-backed China Arms Control and Disarmament Association, said:
“The internet has no boundaries, so we can’t say which country or organisation will be our enemy and who will attack us. The Blue Army’s main target is self-defence. We won’t initiate an attack on anyone.”
