On Thursday (May 19 2011), China Mobile had reached agreement with Apple that the next-gen iPhone will support the carrier’s 4th-gen TD-LTE data network. However, the company was unable to tell when the next-gen iPhone will exactly roll out. But a report suggested that, the LTE-capable iPhone will launch next year.
This information is confirmed by MarketWatch, and claimed:
China Mobile Ltd. had “reached consensus” with Apple Inc. on using its fourth-generation technology on iPhones to be offered by the Chinese mobile services provider. But the launch time has not specified yet.
In fact, we had already heard about this in January. Therefore, this is going to happen for sure. But the question that we are having is, when the next-gen iPhone is out?
Originally, Apple was planning to release the LTE-capable iPhone within 2011. But an industry source suggested that LTE chips from Qualcomm are not ready for the iPhone’s required production levels. Therefore, the launch has been postponed to next year. And this has also confirmed by China Mobile Chair man Wang Jiazhou who told MarketWatch:
The company plans to start commercial trials of the 4G technology it is promoting, called time-division long term evolution, or TD-LTE, in China beginning next year.
Furthermore, Jeffries & Co. analyst Peter Misek has also predicted that China Mobile will get the iPhone “4S” in September. So what is the 4S going to surprise us? Is that going to look like the prototype that we found previously?
