Walt Disney Planning For A Low-Carbon Town Near Shanghai’s Disneyland

Besides the Shanghai’s Disneyland project that Disney Co. is carrying on, the company also decided to build a new town near its themed-park and it will be very similar to the town of Celebration in Florida. This new town will cover 4.6 square kilometers around Shanghai Disneyland, which enables to accommodate 100,000 people after completion, and it is going to be based on Zero Carbon System.

The company invests about 8.6 billion yuan (US$1.32 billion) on this low-carbon town and expected to be completed by 2016. The town is expecting to powered by solar, wind and biomass source. Meanwhile, water source heat pumps from the Huangpu River will cool residential buildings, commercial centers and other public facilities in the summer. The plan is to achieve average carbon emissions will drop from the current 8 tons per person a day to 3 ton.
