Chinese Government Strikes On Unlicensed Online Mapping Services

Mapping Service

We can see the Chinese authorities are being very strict and serious of treating pirates. A nationwide campaign has launched recently by the government in order to smash away any illegal online mapping services, violators will face punishment, said by the country’s mapping bureau.

The State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping collaborates with other 13 agencies to address illegal online mapping services within the nation. “Unauthorized disclosure of confidential information on the maps, and mistakes in drawing the country’s border, especially on islands and coastal areas”, said by the government official.

For those who are not participated to get a license by the end of this month will end up with a “resolute punishments”, and also to reinforce the public awareness to the nation’s security policy.

The Bureau had detected over 14,000 websites providing mapping services and the industry are expected to generate revenues reaching 3 billion yuan (US$457 million) by 2012, the report revealed.

Furthermore, 105 websites across the country, including Baidu, Sina, Nokia and China Mobile had already granted an authorized license in the mid of Feb. The government clearly is to bring up the number of legal providers across the nation instead of benefiting overseas providers sneaked into the rich market.
