Chinese Writer Accuses Baidu Of Stealing

Baidu, the largest search engine in China, was accused by Chinese writers that the information consists in the database of Baidu are infringing their copyright, and saying Baidu Library is a “booty database”. This is another issued over Baidu in regard pirated goods after the US Trade Representative identified Baidu as one of the most notorious markets for pirated content.

In November last year, Shanda Literature CEO called on publishers, writers and the others to initiated Baidu as a joint lawsuit against network piracy, which caused the “China Written Works Copyright Society” openly supported the joint publication of literature prosecution of Baidu and strictly accused on the company.

More than 40 writers have signed a letter that they are unhappy with Baidu provided their works for free to download on its online library Baidu Wenku, without their permission. The author said “Baidu has become a totally corrupt thief company” that runs a “marketplace of stolen goods.”

Baidu spokesman Kaiser Kuo said in response:

“The search engine attaches great importance to intellectual property rights protection” and had deleted “tens of thousands of infringing items” uploaded by web users. “We promised that authors or copyright holders can report problematic content found on Baidu Library to the complaint center … and we will delete infringing content within 48 hours.”

As a result, Baidu has condone violations of the intellectual property, confused the regulatory over pirated goods in China. Therefore, authorities should have came forward to prosecute Baidu lawfully.
