China Mobile has started testing on its large-scale telecommunications technology for the fourth-generation (4G) of its Time Division-Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) in seven cities. The company claimed that the 4G Net Cards which are going to be 10 times faster than the third-generation (3G) net cards.
The testing network consisted of more than 1,000 base stations, will be completed in the seven cities of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Beijing in 2011. It will also launch TD-LTE net cards for users to experience in the second half of 2011 and scheduled to achieve the commercial use by the year 2012.
Wang Jianzhou, the chairman of China Mobile Communications Co. told ChinaDaily, “I hope the Chinese government will draw up the development plans for TD-LTE as soon as possible, to send a clear signal to the market and help domestic and overseas resources to flow into the TD-LTE industry.” TD-LTE technology has truly opened a “global market” for China Mobile.
Nine international telecom carriers have signed agreements with China Mobile to help deploy 27 TD-LTE trial networks worldwide, according to the company’s statement.
And a good news for China Mobile is, Sprint/Clearwire and Light Squared have announced they will adopt TD-LTE. But the director-general of the China Communications Standards Association, Wu Hequan said “the chips for TD-LTE mobile phones are not mature, and the TD-LTE market is not ready, as few new mobile applications for the technology are emerging at the moment.”
“If we adopt TD-LTE too early, it may have a negative impact on domestic telecom companies which are currently expending great efforts in developing the 3G network now,” Wu added.
So will the new era of the high-speed 4G network makes a hug difference to our lifestyle?
