ZTE is the world’s 4th largest Chinese phone manufacturer and looks like they will be focusing on smartphones and tablets this year. The Chinese company claims that it will not only aim for a double or triple in sales growth in smartphones, but instead aims for 5-fold growth to boost its sales up by 30-40%. That sounds ambitious, and they are also preparing to launch a Honeycomb tablet.
ZTE is one of the top five mobile phone vendors, shipments and market share in 2010, just behind Nokia, Samsung and LG got the first three positions. Since everyone in the world is going to switch to a smartphone, ZTE will surely work hard to boost its position in the smartphone market by launching new smartphones running Android software. What’s more, ZTE plans to launch a tablet running Google’s Android 3.0 software. The tablet, V11, has been showcased at the Mobile World Congress recently. Below are some photos.
It looks pretty cool with a 10-inch screen (1280 X 800), and runs on a 1.2 GHz processor. It even packs a 5 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. It may come with support for 4G network too. Unfortunately, the one on display at the ZTE booth would not power up, so we have to wait for more details from ZTE in coming months.
According to IDC, ZTE sold 51.8 million cellphones in 2010. This is incredible since the company only sold 26.7 million phones in 2009. So, we believe ZTE could really push its smartphones to the next level this year. Huawei, hear that?
