26 Billion SMS messages Sent During Spring Festival

Everyone’s got a mobile phone these days, and it is absolutely normal to use it to send greeting message on special occasions. In China, the Spring Festival is the most important celebration for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. And amazingly, Chinese mobile phone users sent 26 billion messages during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday this year.

This is a really big figure and it sees a 13 percent increase over the same period last year. This should prove SMS messages have become one of the most popular ways to exchange greetings during the traditional Chinese New Year. What’s more, according to Ministry of Industry and Information Technology figures, 15.6 billion SMS messages were sent on the eve of the Spring Festival and during the Lunar New Year’s Day, which fell on February 3. Incredible huh?
