Nokia Takes Mobile Location Services To The Next Level in China

This is why there are more companies are focusing on mainland China. Nokia is now collaborating with Sina and Tencent, two of China’s leading Internet service providers, to bring location based services through Ovi Maps in China. Nokia’s Ovi Maps will include the web services of Sina and Tencent, allowing users to enjoy and share location services to friends and communities with Sina microblog and Tencent’s online community. This might attract millions of Nokia users in the country.

By making use of China’s social networking platforms, users will be able to share their location, check-in places, and upload content and recommendations using their Nokia mobile devices.

“More than 250 million people are using a Nokia device in China and with this partnership, we can help people share their location with their friends and communities through Ovi Maps on their favorite social network,” said Phil Kemp, Vice President of Nokia services in China.

We don’t know if this will work, since the Chinese smartphone users are either using an iPhone or an Android smartphone now. I see few people are using a Nokia smartphone… Anyway, working with Sina and Tencent will be a success, this will allow the users from the two popular online platforms to enjoy China’s first location based services through Ovi Maps. Expect to see it working during the first quarter of 2011.
