An ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission experiment is carried out at minus 20 C at an experimental base of the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute on the 9th Jan 2011. The experiment base is a leader in doing 12 UHV-related experiments in the world. Electric sparks are seen during a UHV transmission experiment.

State Grid Corp of China announced in last August that it will build a network of ultra-high-voltage lines in northern, eastern and central China by 2015, in order to link up all major energy production region to ensure power supply.
