Forget Galaxy Tab, ZTE Light Beats It

ZTE Light Hands-on

Finally, ZTE has joined in the game of Android tablets and they have a really good starting point with their 7-inch tablet, the ZTE Light. It features a 7” display with a 800×480 resolution, 3G + Wi-Fi, GPS, and camera. It works just like Galaxy Tab and cost wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper, that’s why I agree ZTE Light is a great Galaxy Tab wannabe. Here we have an in-depth preview of it.

ZTE Light Hands-on

First, the specs. ZTE Light does cover all the basics with a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 7-inch resistive touchscreen display (800 x 480), Android 2.1, Wi-Fi plus 3G connectivity, built-in GPS, Bluetooth, micro SD card slot for expansion (up to 32GB), accelerometer, 3.5 mm headphone jack, 3 megapixel camera, and a 3400 mAh battery which does five hours of continuous use. Battery life seems to be the defect.

Since the device uses a resistive touchscreen display, there’s no Multi-Touch. ZTE Light measures 192 x 110 x 12.6 mm and weighs 388 grams. It’s very similar to Galaxy Tab in terms of size and weight.

It has three touch sensitive buttons on the surface.

Glossy screen is sexy, but I prefer matte.

On the top, 3.5 mm headphone jack and speaker.

The back is super clean. Only a camera can be found.

There’s no LED flash.

On the bottom, a micro USB port and another speaker.

Users can access the battery, SIM card and micro SD by removing the back cover.

You need to remove the battery first to access the SIM and micro SD.

The home screen. Supports live wallpaper and widgets.

ZTE Light Hands-on

Just like Galaxy Tab, ZTE Light has a call function which works like normal phone. You make calls using speakerphone, earphone, or bluetooth headset.

ZTE Light Hands-on

Yes, it supports different types of Chinese input methods.

It comes with Documents To Go app.

Get access with Android Market to download more apps. Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare are all available!

Angry Birds. Gameplay may be laggy at sometimes.

Galley app may be laggy too when lots of pictures are processed.

ZTE Light Hands-on

Sadly, it gets a Quadrant Standard score of 406, slightly better than a Motorola Droid…

Overall, the performance of ZTE Light is not as good as Galaxy Tab. If you are just looking for a small and cheap tablet, ZTE Light is the perfect one to grab, just 3680 HKD (about $473). Umm… I could get an iPad by adding a few more money.

The internal memory is too less for installation of applications even what to talk of storage.
