I Want This Awesomely Cool iPad Knockoff

iPad knockoff. We’ve introduced countless of models, ranging from 7-inches to 10-inches. To be honest, they all suck. But somehow this Android-powered 9.7-inch iPad knockoff becomes our most wanted Christmas present so far. Yes, it is a thing of beauty. Updated.

At first sight, we thought it is iPad 2. Sadly, it’s not. It’s the latest iPad knockoff from Shenzhen. The knockoff makers did a really great job on this beauty. Here’s its specs: Powered by a speedy Cortex A8 processor running at 800 MHz, includes 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, 9.7 inch capacitive screen (1024 X 768) which is sourced from LG with IPS technology, built-in Wi-Fi, 3G, and accelerometer. The device runs Android 2.2, measures at 243 x 190 x 14.4mm and weighs 690 grams. What’s more, it comes with a built-in 3800mah battery which gives you up to 5 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music. All these stuff really amazed us.

You’ll find the standard 30-pin connector on its end.

Same with the original iPad, there’s a matte black plastic strip that is its antenna. Guess what, it is removable and reveals a SIM card slot.

The back is totally clean with no labels or logo at all. An Apple sticker will be perfect on this beauty!

Comparing with the original iPad

Both guys look exactly the same from the top. By looking at the sides, we can notice the difference between them. The knockoff has more holes and those holes are actually the speakers! This is incredible, the knockoff has five speakers. However, this makes the device to be slightly thicker than the original. Who cares?

Oh, there’s one big difference. The knockoff has a front camera. This is useful.

By overall, it is the most beautiful and decent iPad knockoff we have ever seen in China. What we really like the most is its LED-backlit IPS display. With IPS technology, the device has a wide, 178° viewing angle. So you can hold it almost any way you want and still get a brilliant picture, with excellent color and contrast. Speaking of the cons, we are sad to see that it lacks of a micro SD card slot. It will be a good idea to add a micro SD card slot for users to extend the built-in 4GB flash storage. Finally, here’s the price. Just 1850 yuan (about $277). A bit expensive but still lovable.

Update: Here are more photos in operating mode:

Kinda pricy for a Chinese knockoff, but it sounds like a pretty solid quality Android tablet.  The lack of SD slot is the only thing that I consider a major oversight.
